Kalen’s Codex Ambassador application

Hey Kai,

Here’s my Codex Ambassador application. I haven’t hit submit yet and would love your advice.

Would you also be okay with me putting your name down as a referral?

Thanks for taking a look!
Kalen

My application answers

Why do you want to become a Codex Ambassador?

I’m a high school dropout who found my way into tech through the internet and pro StarCraft. Codex is now part of my everyday work at Offsite, and I want more people to have that “wait, I can actually build this?” moment. I spent a year leading LampPost’s community cohorts, and now we’re building free AI Build Nights in Victoria. I’d love to help people get unstuck, learn from each other and leave with something cool they made.

What’s your favorite thing you’ve built with Codex?

My favourite is a mobile-first agent I built for Offsite using OpenRouter and our RAG knowledge system. It answers questions and takes actions, so I can get useful work done from my phone. I also use Codex for day-to-day operations, including Patch Notes, our AI Build Night newsletter. It helps turn what I’ve learned and local tech events into an issue I review before sending: aibuildnight.ca/pages/patch-notes-26-10-11

Have you hosted a tech event previously?

Yes! I led partnerships for CDM Summit Kelowna 2025 https://cdmsummit.ca/cdm-summit-kelowna-2025-2/ and ran LampPost’s Victoria cohorts for a year. I now run operations at Offsite, where we plan events for leading AI companies. I also help/volunteer with VIBE and Victoria Data Society.

I’m applying for the Event path, but I love sharing what I make with Codex.

Would your events or content focus on a specific audience, industry, or niche?

Builders in Victoria, BC who want to put AI to work: developers, founders and people in operations like me. We’re starting with a small group of experienced builders who enjoy sharing what they know, then growing intentionally to welcome more people who want to learn. The focus is hands-on building, useful challenges and helping each other get unstuck. I want people to leave with something they made and a skill they can use the next day.

What would your first contribution be?

I’d host AI Build Night in Victoria: a free, three-hour session where people bring a real problem, build with Codex and share what worked. We have a website and a 20-person first night planned. I’d help people get set up, offer challenges for different experience levels and finish with quick demos. We’d start with a strong core group, learn what makes the night useful, then grow toward monthly events for 50+ builders. I’d also bring their feedback back to OpenAI.

Would you host events or create content in a language other than English?

English for both events and content.

Have you participated in another tech ambassador program?

No. I've attended two of the Codex Community events in Vancouver and one Grok Bot meetup in Victoria. Paurav on our team was an undergrad tech ambassador with Anthropic at UVIC.
